Design Features of our Outlander Costume in Steel Blue Linen & Outlander Tartan Skirt

The DORINE Costume

The Lace-Up Bodice

Meticulously made from steel blue linen and lined with cotton for ultimate comfort, this bodice offers a perfect blend of style and functionality. With boning in the back seam and both sides of the front opening, it provides the essential structure for a flattering fit. The pre-shaped sleeves elegantly end at the elbow, adding a touch of grace to your Outlander Costume.

Delivered with a Outlander Tartan Stomacher this is a complete and versatile garment that will transport you to the world of historical fashion.

The Outlander Tartan Skirt

The skirt, crafted from Outlander tartan fabric, consists of two panels connected at the sides, with an open upper end on each side for easy wear.

This historically-inspired skirt features 18th-century-style pleats: at the front, pleats extend from the central box towards the sides, while at the back, they start from the sides and converge at the center.

In the images provided, the skirt is worn over a bum pad, which adds volume to the hips and accentuates the waist's slimness.

Outlander Tartan Plaid

This tartan is meticulously designed to replicate the original as closely as possible, using natural dyes derived from vegetation available to the clan.

The colors, brown and grey, serve as effective camouflage during hunting expeditions. The Fraser tartan for OUTLANDER, inspired by the Fraser Hunting Weathered Tartan, was carefully chosen to suit the show's time period and setting.

  • The Outlander weavers paid close attention to detail, ensuring the colors and weaving style accurately represented the era and region of the Fraser Clan.
  • Outlanders weavers took great care to design with the colors and style of looming that would have been available at the time and area of the Fraser Clan
  • Tartan crafted with a hopsack plain weave with a wash to give it a natural and genuine look

How to wear your Outlander Costume in Steel Blue Linen & Outlander Tartan Skirt

To wear your Outlander costume, please follow these steps:

Skirt:

  1. Secure the linen skirt by tying the back panel ties and knotting them at the front.
  2. Adjust the front panel by wrapping it like an apron around the waist, making a double turn.
  3. In the accompanying photos, the skirt is styled with a bustle pad to add volume to the hips and highlight the waist.

Bodice:

  1. Put on the jacket.
  2. Cross the cord through the metal eyelets, starting from the bottom and going to the top.
  3. Before tightening the drawstring, slide the stomacher behind it and ensure a comfortable, snug fit around the chest.

About Sizing

Finding the Right Size:

Please refer to the size chart to select the correct size for your Outlander Costume. Keep in mind that an historical costume doesn't follow standard sizing, so getting an accurate fit is important for comfort and effectiveness. Here's a complete guide on how to measure yourself.

Custom Sizing:

If your measurements don't align with the sizes on the chart, we recommend choosing the "custom size" option. After placing your order, submit your measurements through our Custom Sizing Form as soon as possible. Delay in receiving your measurements will also delay your order.
