LOUISE D’EPINAY in purple linen is a faithful reproduction of the “Round Gown” worn in Western Europe and America around the 1770s-1785s.
Unlike the charlotte model of the shop, the LOUISE D’EPINAY dress comes in one piece. Indeed, the dress coat is sewn, by the sides, to the front panel of the skirt. The whole gown represents a very generous volume of fabric since the wingspan of the LOUISE D’EPINAY dress in purple linen reaches 4 meters.
An English gown in a round version
The dress mantua gives LOUISE all its English character. It is made of a fitted boned bodice and lined with black cotton poplin. Its square neckline closes at the front with a series of eyelets located on either side of the opening. On this linen model, a delicately pleated lace ribbon decorates the end of the sleeves.
The LOUISE D’EPINAY dress is put on in the following way. We pass the dress through the head through the opening. Then, the frontal part of the skirt is adjusted by tying the ties around the waist, like an apron. Once the skirt is in place, you slip your arms through the sleeves of the dress, which is tied on the front, passing a ribbon in the eyelets located on either side of the opening.
In the presentation photos, the dress is worn over stays and a bum pad that gives it this nice volume at the hips while highlighting the finesse of the waist. Both pieces of undergarments are NOT included in the price.
A bum pad is available in the shop, here: SUZIE
